Ohio State Buckeyes schedule historic Grambling State matchup in 2025, remove UConn from schedule

Ohio State has made a change to its 2025 nonconference schedule, replacing a matchup against UConn with a game against Grambling State in September. This will be the first meeting between the Buckeyes and the Tigers, representing Grambling State’s first game against a Big Ten opponent. The Tigers are set to travel to Columbus on Sept. 6. This will be Ohio State’s fifth game against an FCS opponent and second facing an HBCU institution. Grambling State’s athletic director, Travyean Scott, expressed excitement about the opportunity to showcase their brand on a national stage.

Originally slated to play UConn in October, Ohio State’s schedule adjustment allows for a potential open date during Big Ten play. The Buckeyes will kick off their 2025 season with a game against Texas on Aug. 30 and face Ohio on Sept. 13 to round out their nonconference lineup. Grambling State, despite not having a winning season since 2019, is a highly accomplished program in the South with 27 SWAC titles and 16 Black College National Championships. The Tigers are no strangers to playing FBS opponents, having taken on LSU last season and set to play Louisiana in 2024.

This upcoming matchup between Ohio State and Grambling State is highly anticipated, with fans and players from both institutions eager to witness the cultural and athletic excellence of their respective programs. The game will be a chance for both schools to showcase their football traditions and storied histories to a wide audience.
