Shane Burdue of Toledo, Ohio was sentenced to 14 months in prison for running a counterfeit merchandise business known as “Shanes Mancave”. Burdue trafficked thousands of dollars of merchandise over the internet and through social media, primarily selling fake Nike, MLB, NBA, and NFL merchandise. Between 2014 and 2023, he accepted more than 800 international shipments, mainly from China. Federal authorities seized hundreds of counterfeit sports items from his operation, totaling over $29,000 in Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. Burdue was also ordered to pay $4,081 in restitution to the Coalition to Advance Protection of Sports Logos. The prosecution highlighted the widespread impact of counterfeiting, which not only harms consumers but also poses safety hazards for workers and is linked to criminal activities such as child labor and forced labor. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of cracking down on counterfeit merchandise to protect consumers and prevent criminal activities associated with the counterfeit trade.
