News4 Today – NBC4 Washington Reports Metro Website Offline Due to Global Internet Outage


A widespread Microsoft outage linked to a cybersecurity software disrupted various services worldwide, including flights, banks, media outlets, and companies. The outage caused delays for News4 Today and shut down Metro’s website. Major carriers like American Airlines and Delta issued ground stops, and travelers were advised to check their flight status. The University of Maryland Medical System is assessing the impact on its systems.

CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity system at the root of the outage, attributed the issue to a recent update. Microsoft 365 is working on redirecting traffic to alleviate the impact. Metro trains are running, but its website is down. Local airports reported delays, and over 100 delays were reported at DC-area airports.

Local 911 services are unaffected, while the National Health Service in the UK faced significant disruptions. News4 Today was delayed, with some computers showing a “blue screen of death.” Microsoft stated that the problem with its Azure Service and Microsoft 365 apps was fixed but residual impacts persisted.

The outage affected various services globally, with reports of outages at Visa, ADT security, Amazon, and major airlines.
