US airline IT disruptions result in widespread flight cancellations and have detrimental impact on other industries

A technical issue impacting IT systems at U.S. airlines led to the grounding of hundreds of flights in the United States on Friday morning. The problem, which was not a security incident or cyberattack, affected airlines, banks, state agencies, and emergency services globally. Passengers at airports were stranded, and some travelers missed important events like funerals and birthdays.
The Federal Aviation Administration was monitoring the situation, and CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity firm, worked to resolve the issue. Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, and other carriers experienced disruptions but gradually resumed flights. International airlines and airports also reported technical disruptions. The outage impacted various services, including 911 operations, mass transit, banking, and health services in different countries.
In the United States, some 911 operations were affected across states, while driver services in North Carolina, Georgia, and Tennessee were halted due to the technical problems. The Federal Communications Commission was looking into the nationwide 911 outages. The situation was fluid, with updates from various agencies and companies as they worked to resolve the issue and resume normal operations.
