The 21st annual Battle Against Cystic Fibrosis Basketball Classic saw an exciting matchup between Ohio and West Virginia, with West Virginia coming out on top with a final score of 105-103. Logan Alfred of Ravenswood secured the win with a game-winning shot in the final seconds. Despite facing a halftime deficit, West Virginia rallied in the second half, led by MVP Jaden Westfall. Ohio’s MVP, Tariq Cottrill, put up a game-high 26 points.
In addition to the intense game, the event featured various contests, including a 3-point shootout and a dunk contest. Landon Bennett of Calhoun County won the 3-point contest, while the Marietta Tigers dominated the dunk contest. Izak Knighten, who won first place in the dunk contest, described the experience of playing with a new team and the excitement of being back on the court.
One player, Wahama’s Bryce Zuspan, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at a young age, shared the importance of raising awareness for the disorder and the positive impact of organizations like The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Zuspan, who scored 13 points in the game, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to represent those living with CF and emphasized the importance of fundraisers like the BACF Basketball Classic.
Overall, the event was a success, bringing together talented players and raising funds for a crucial cause. Players enjoyed the opportunity to compete and showcase their skills while supporting the fight against cystic fibrosis.
