Ohio State University’s basketball team may have had a slow start to the season, but that didn’t stop sophomore guard Bruce Thornton and senior forward Jamison Battle from receiving honors for their impressive production. Thornton was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team by the media and received an honorable mention from the coaches, while Battle also received honorable mentions from both groups.
Former head coach Chris Holtmann had high hopes for his sophomores, and Thornton certainly delivered by leading the team with 16.1 points, 4.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He was also praised for his defensive skills on the perimeter. Battle, on the other hand, led the Big Ten in 3-pointers made per game and averaged 14.4 points on a 44 percent shooting from downtown.
Despite finishing as the 10 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, the Buckeyes ended the season on a high note with a 5-1 record and a four-game win streak under interim head coach Jake Diebler. Diebler led the team to upset victories against top-ranked teams like Purdue and Michigan State on the road.
Now, Thornton and Battle are focused on the upcoming game against the 7-seeded Iowa Hawkeyes in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament. The game will be streamed on the Big Ten Network from Target Center in Minneapolis at 6:30 p.m. Fans are eagerly anticipating another thrilling performance from these standout players as they look to lead the Buckeyes to victory.
