Sports News and Job Opportunities in the Mid-Ohio Valley


The VETS4VETS golf tournament is set to take place on June 23 at Greenhills Country Club, with proceeds benefiting veterans and their families in Jackson County and the surrounding areas. The entry fee is $75 per player for the four person best ball scramble. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three teams, with additional prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, and longest putt. Those interested can contact the course or Misty Comer to register.

Nominations are being accepted for the second class of the Wirt County Sports Hall of Fame until June 28. Six inductees will be selected for the 2024 class, with a revised criteria that no longer requires nominees to be native Wirt Countians. Those wishing to nominate a former player, coach, or community member should send their information via email.

The MOVTA will be organizing a Summer Tennis Junior Match Play event from June 12 to July 31, excluding July 3, at the City Park Tennis Courts. The event is free and meant to encourage friendly competition among middle school and high school players in the Mid-Ohio-Valley. Interested participants can sign up on the first day of play.

Lastly, the Marietta College Pioneer Club Golf Outing, now in its 39th year, will be held on July 19 at the Marietta Country Club. There will be two flights of golf with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The entry fee is $120 per golfer or $480 per foursome, with a discount for young alumni from the classes of 2020-2024. Registration can be done through a provided link. Sponsors for the event include BSN Sports and FieldTurf.
