Israel escalates airstrikes in Gaza, leaving behind a trail of destruction: Torn bodies and shattered lives | Latest updates on Israel-Palestine conflict

The Israeli military has continued its relentless bombardment of Gaza, resulting in dozens of deaths, including a local journalist, as the Palestinian death toll nears 39,000. The attacks have hit different parts of the territory, with the Palestinian Civil Defence reporting the retrieval of bodies from various areas, including residential towers and refugee camps.

One of the recent attacks targeted a commercial building housing displaced people, resulting in the deaths of at least six individuals. In another incident, a local journalist, Muhammad Abu Jasser, along with his wife and two children, were killed in an Israeli shelling of Jabalia in northern Gaza. The continual violence has also led to the death of 161 Palestinian journalists in Gaza since the start of the conflict.

Amidst the attacks, Gaza is also facing a hunger crisis due to the suffocating blockade imposed by Israel, with health advocates warning of the potential spread of diseases. The Ministry of Interior has cautioned against movement within the territory, accusing Israel of using psychological pressure to further displace Palestinians.

Hamas has accused Israel of intensifying its bombings in response to a ruling by the International Court of Justice declaring the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories illegal. The group has called on the United Nations to intervene and stop the “show of Zionist crimes and terrorism”.

Despite ongoing talks for a ceasefire deal, Hamas has vowed that Israel’s crimes will not stop without a price to pay. The group’s military wing and allied armed groups have claimed several attacks against Israeli forces in retaliation.
