Vice President Kamala Harris has backed President Joe Biden’s push for reforms to the Supreme Court, including term limits for justices, a binding code of conduct, and a constitutional amendment to remove immunity for crimes committed by a president while in office. Harris stated that these reforms are necessary to restore confidence in the court and ensure that nobody is above the law.
In addition to supporting the Supreme Court reforms, Harris also highlighted endorsements from mayors in border towns in swing state Arizona, as she faces criticism from Republicans for her handling of illegal border crossings. The mayors of Bisbee, Nogales, Somerton, and San Luis, as well as Yuma county supervisors, have endorsed Harris, emphasizing their trust in her to meet the needs of border cities and towns.
Meanwhile, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has extended a welcome to Iowa residents in need of reproductive healthcare, as Iowa’s strict six-week abortion ban went into effect. Other Democratic leaders, such as Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, have condemned the Iowa law and offered support to those affected by it.
As questions continue to arise about the political transformation of former President Donald Trump’s running mate, JD Vance, Harris’s campaign is launching a “Fight for Reproductive Freedom week of action” to raise awareness about the importance of reproductive rights in the upcoming election. The campaign will feature events across key battleground states with appearances from prominent reproductive rights activists and leaders.
