A tragic plane crash in Campbell County, Wyoming, claimed the lives of seven individuals, including three members of the popular gospel music group, The Nelons. The group’s co-founder, Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Clark, and their daughter, Amber Nelon Kistler, were among those killed in the crash. Also lost were Nelon Kistler’s husband, Nathan Kistler, family friend Melodi Hodges, and Larry and Melissa Haynie.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, daughter of Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark and a member of the group, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and prayers the family has received in the wake of the tragedy. The plane, identified as a single-engine turboprop Pilatus PC-12/47E, crashed on Friday afternoon due to an “auto pilot issue during flight,” according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
The Nelons were on their way to join the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the crash occurred. The group has had 20 top-five songs in the gospel format and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2016. Originating from a 1970s gospel act, the LeFevres, The Nelons later changed their name in 1977 to the Rex Nelon Singers before adopting the name The Nelons in 1985.
The music community mourns the loss of these talented individuals and offers their condolences to their loved ones during this difficult time.
