The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave in the central Atlantic with a medium chance of development this week. An area of disturbed weather near the Leeward Islands and Greater Antilles is expected to interact with an approaching tropical wave, with favorable conditions for development in the coming days. There is a 50% chance of formation over the next seven days. A tropical depression could form mid to late week near the northern Leeward Islands, Greater Antilles, southwestern Atlantic Ocean, or southeastern Bahamas. Plumes of dust from Africa’s Sahara Desert and dry air have hindered cyclone formation in the Atlantic, but activity is expected to increase in late July and early August as conditions improve. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity from mid-August to mid-October. AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alan Reppert predicts more tropical systems as La Niña develops. The Hurricane Center continues to track tropical disturbances in the Atlantic. Hurricane season is not yet over, and residents should stay informed and prepared for potential storms.
