NWS confirms tornado touchdown in southwest Ohio

A small EF-1 tornado touched down in Warren County, Ohio early Tuesday morning, causing minor damage to homes and uprooting trees. The tornado, with a top estimated wind speed of 95 mph, was on the ground for 10 minutes and traveled over eight miles into Clinton County. This tornado is the 65th confirmed tornado in Ohio this year, surpassing the previous record of 62 set in 1992.

Earlier this year, an EF-3 tornado in Logan County produced winds of 155 mph, resulting in three fatalities and over 20 injuries. In May, 12 confirmed tornadoes swept across the state in one day, with the strongest being an EF-2 with winds of 130 mph. These tornadoes caused significant property damage but fortunately, no deaths were reported.

Despite being classified as an EF-1 tornado, which typically has winds between 86 and 110 mph, Tuesday’s tornado did not cause extensive damage. The National Weather Service reported some uprooted trees and damage to roofs and gutters along the tornado’s path.

Ohio has been experiencing an unusually high number of tornadoes this year, with the total count already reaching a record 65. The previous record of 62 tornadoes was set in 1992. The NWS reminds residents to stay informed and prepared for severe weather events, as tornadoes can strike with little warning.
