Ukraine’s air force repelled a massive aerial attack by Russia, shooting down 89 drones and one missile targeting Kyiv. Despite some damage to buildings, there were no reported casualties. This was the seventh drone attack on the city in July, prompting thousands of residents to seek shelter in metro stations. Russia conducts nightly strikes on Ukraine, claiming to target military and energy facilities, while Ukraine accuses Russia of directly targeting civilians.
In response to these ongoing conflicts, Russia has initiated the third stage of drills to practice the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons. President Putin has previously stated that Russia could use nuclear weapons in extreme situations. Russia alleges that the United States and its allies are escalating tensions by providing weapons to Ukraine. Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned that a German ammunition factory being built in Ukraine could be considered a legitimate target.
In a retaliatory move, Ukraine’s military struck a weapons and military equipment storage facility in Russia’s Kursk region. The Kursk region’s acting governor confirmed that Ukrainian missiles were intercepted by Russian air defenses. The ongoing conflicts continue to escalate tensions between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides engaged in aggressive military actions.
