Live: Harris’s campaign declares July as the most successful grassroots fundraising month in US presidential election history | US elections 2024

Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign made history in July with record-breaking grassroots fundraising numbers. The campaign raised more in four days after President Biden’s endorsement than Trump’s big donor-reliant campaign did in an entire month. Over 3 million donors made 4.2 million contributions, with 2 million first-time donors this cycle. A majority of donations were under $200, with teachers and nurses being top donor occupations. The campaign saw a significant increase in gen Z and millennial donors and 60% of July donations were from women.

In addition to fundraising success, Harris is expected to meet with top vice-presidential contenders, including Pennsylvania governor Josh Shapiro. Shapiro, with historically high approval ratings, is speculated to be a leading VP candidate due to his bipartisan support and importance in battleground states. Biden has spoken with Harris regarding her VP selections, and a decision is expected soon.

In a surprising turn of events, Kyle Rittenhouse, the man acquitted of two murders during a racial justice protest, announced he will be writing in Ron Paul for president, criticizing Trump over second amendment issues. Meanwhile, for-profit universities are funding lawmakers attacking top universities over Israel-Gaza protests, leading to calls to defund these institutions. Trump also refused to be fact-checked at a recent conference, causing a delay in his appearance.
