Ohio State basketball receives more good news as another starter decides to return

Ohio State basketball fans have reason to celebrate as yet another starter has announced their return to the team for the upcoming season. Senior guard Duane Washington Jr. has confirmed that he will be back in Scarlet and Gray for what will be his fourth year with the Buckeyes.

Washington’s decision to return gives Ohio State another key piece to their roster as they look to build on their success from last season. The Grand Rapids, Michigan native averaged 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game during the 2020-2021 campaign, earning All-Big Ten honors in the process.

With Washington back in the fold, the Buckeyes will boast a veteran backcourt that also includes fellow senior guard Justin Ahrens and junior guard CJ Walker. Head coach Chris Holtmann will no doubt be pleased to have Washington’s scoring ability and leadership back on the court as the team aims to make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

Washington’s return comes on the heels of fellow starter E.J. Liddell opting to come back for another year at Ohio State, providing the team with continuity and experience as they gear up for the upcoming season. The Buckeyes finished last season with a 21-10 record and reached the NCAA tournament, where they made it to the second round before falling to Oral Roberts in a stunning upset.

The return of Washington and Liddell, along with the addition of talented recruits to the roster, has Ohio State fans feeling optimistic about the team’s prospects for the upcoming season. With a strong core of players in place, the Buckeyes will be looking to build on last year’s success and compete for a Big Ten title and a deep run in March Madness.
