Where in Ohio can residents purchase recreational marijuana on Tuesday?

Ohio’s recreational marijuana sales are set to begin on Tuesday, August 6, much to the excitement of residents like Derek Johnson and John Turner who have been eagerly awaiting this day since the legalization of adult-use cannabis last November. While medical dispensaries were able to apply to sell recreationally earlier this summer, sales were slightly delayed but are now set to start ahead of schedule.

Amplify Dispensary in Cleveland Heights is one of the first sellers ready to serve consumers on opening day, with General Manager Marvin Keyes anticipating a busy turnout. The dispensary has been preparing for months and is equipped with knowledgeable staff to help educate and serve new customers, while still prioritizing medical patients.

However, despite the excitement surrounding the start of recreational sales, there are ongoing discussions among state lawmakers regarding marijuana policy. The House and the Senate are in conflict over proposed policies that could potentially restrict certain aspects of marijuana use, leading to a stalemate on potential changes until the end of the year.

Consumers must be 21 years old with a valid ID to purchase recreational marijuana and can possess up to 2.5 ounces in all forms. Many dispensaries only accept cash due to federal banking regulations, but some offer alternatives like third-party payment apps. A list of approved dispensaries for Tuesday sales is still being finalized, with Amplify CH and other locations across Ohio poised to serve customers.
