Members of Donald Trump’s campaign staff were involved in an altercation with the head of public affairs at Arlington National Cemetery during a wreath-laying ceremony. The incident allegedly occurred when cemetery officials tried to prevent Trump’s team from filming in an area reserved for cemetery staff, leading to verbal abuse and physical pushing. No charges have been filed, and the cemetery has reminded all participants of federal laws prohibiting political campaign-related activities within Army National Cemeteries.
The situation was described as minor by a senior Defense Department official, while a Trump campaign spokesman denied claims of a physical altercation and offered to release footage of the incident. The altercation comes shortly after Corey Lewandowski, a former Trump campaign manager, joined the 2024 campaign staff. Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery on the third anniversary of an attack in Afghanistan, for which he blamed President Biden and Vice President Harris.
The Trump campaign shared a statement from family members of soldiers killed in the attack, expressing gratitude for Trump’s participation and the respectful behavior of his team. The family members reportedly gave approval for Trump’s videographer and photographer to attend the ceremony. The cemetery filed a complaint with the civilian police department, but no charges were filed as the incident was deemed a report of an incident.
