The 28th Head of the Cuyahoga Regatta took place on Saturday at the Cuyahoga River and Rivergate Park in Cleveland, Ohio. Hosted by the Cleveland Rowing Foundation, the event saw rowers from 14 states and even an international crew from Mexico participating in the nation’s largest single-day rowing event.
Rowers launched from the Cleveland Rowing Foundation and Merwin’s Wharf docks to row 5,000 meters upriver to the starting line near the steel mills and then raced back in a time-trial format. A total of 61 rowing clubs and 2,000 rowers took part in the competition.
Sue Tyler, President of the Cleveland Rowing Foundation, expressed excitement about hosting the event and highlighted the unique experience that the combination of challenging turns and stunning views of Cleveland offered to both competitors and spectators. The event also provided an opportunity to showcase the city and boost the local economy with an estimated $1.3 million in direct spending.
Participants of all ages and experience levels, ranging from 13-year-olds to those in their 80s, were part of the regatta. The results of the races can be found on CrewTimer.com. The event was a success in bringing together rowing enthusiasts from across the country and around the world to celebrate the sport and the scenic beauty of the Cuyahoga River.
