UN officials demand an end to atrocities in Gaza as Israeli raids result in dozens of deaths | Israel-Palestine conflict update

United Nations officials have spoken out against the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas. In a statement signed by the heads of UN agencies, including the World Food Programme and UNICEF, they called for an end to the atrocities and emphasized the need for safe and unimpeded access to those in need.

The UN officials highlighted the challenges they face in providing aid to Gaza, citing restricted humanitarian access and attacks on healthcare facilities. They warned of a risk of famine with 2.1 million residents in urgent need of food and livelihood assistance. The situation has been further exacerbated by Israeli military attacks, which have resulted in numerous casualties.

Al Jazeera’s reporting from Gaza described the increasingly desperate conditions in the region as a result of the intense bombing campaign. The conflict, which began in October 2023, has seen significant destruction in Gaza, with thousands killed and many more displaced from their homes.

The UN officials’ plea for an end to the suffering and violence in Gaza comes as world leaders gather in New York for the annual UN General Assembly. They stressed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and access to those in need to prevent further loss of life and alleviate the dire situation in the region.
