Several cars were broken into in the Ohio City and Gordon Square neighborhoods in Cleveland this week, according to police. The break-ins mostly occurred in Ohio City on Monday, with thieves targeting cars near West 33rd Street and Lorain Avenue. Photos of suspects, believed to be youths, were released on social media by authorities.
One victim reported that her car was broken into at 10 a.m. while parked at Planet Fitness, with over $1,000 worth of items stolen. Police arrested three youths in a stolen car and are investigating whether they are connected to the break-ins. Sergeant Wilfredo Diaz emphasized the need to address the root causes of juvenile crime, suggesting counseling and home visits to prevent further offenses.
Diaz encouraged community support for at-risk youth, including involvement from family, mentors, and law enforcement. Anyone with information on the break-ins is urged to contact detectives at 216-623-5218. Residents are asked to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help prevent future incidents. Police are urging the community to come together to address the underlying issues that lead to criminal behavior among young people, and provide support and resources to steer them away from a life of crime.
