Cleveland, Ohio – Kyle Manzardo and Chase DeLauter, two standout prospects with the Guardians, made waves in the Arizona Fall League last year. While Manzardo has shown promise as a hitter in the Guardians’ lineup this season, injuries have hampered DeLauter’s progress. DeLauter will be returning to the AFL for the second consecutive year in the hopes of following in Manzardo’s footsteps in the coming seasons.
DeLauter, who was the Guardians’ top pick in 2022, has struggled with injuries, particularly to his left foot, since joining the organization. Despite a strong showing in big league camp this spring, DeLauter has been limited to just 39 games in the minors due to various injuries. He is currently playing for Class AAA Columbus in the International League championship series.
In comparison, Manzardo has been a solid contributor in the Guardians’ lineup this season. DeLauter will be joined in the AFL by several other Cleveland prospects, including right-handers Alaska Abney, Dylan DeLucia, and Allen Hernandez, catcher Kody Huff, left-hander Andrew Misiaszek, and infielder Milan Tolentino. The AFL season kicks off on October 7th.
DeLauter impressed in the AFL last year, hitting .299 with five doubles and five homers in 23 games. Despite his injury setbacks this season, he remains a highly regarded prospect within the organization. MLB Pipeline ranks DeLauter as the second-best prospect in Cleveland’s minor league system, just behind Travis Bazzana. With his return to the AFL, DeLauter will look to showcase his talents and overcome his injury struggles to make a significant impact in the Guardians’ organization.
