Intelligence officials have recently warned Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of real and specific threats from Iran to assassinate him, according to his campaign. Trump claimed to have received a US intelligence briefing on these alleged threats and stated that he is surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than ever before. His campaign spokesperson confirmed the warning from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence regarding efforts by Iran to destabilize and sow chaos in the United States.
Iran has denied these accusations, and the ODNI has acknowledged the briefing without providing specifics. It is unclear if these threats are new or previously reported incidents. Trump had previously accused Iran of hacking his campaign, and Iran has denied any involvement in attempts to kill him. A Pakistani man with ties to Iran pleaded not guilty to charges related to an alleged plot to assassinate Trump in retaliation for the killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani.
Following an alleged assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, authorities received intelligence on an Iranian plot against him, leading to increased security measures. Federal authorities are also investigating a separate incident in September at Trump’s Florida golf course. Despite these threats, Trump is continuing his campaign for the November 5 presidential election.
