The Akron Municipal Court recently unveiled its new Resource Center located on the second floor of the courthouse. The center offers housing support, mediation services, and community resources to help promote workable solutions between landlords and tenants. The center was launched by Judges Ron Cable and Nicole Walker as part of the court’s housing program, funded by a $240,000 grant from the National Center for State Courts’ Eviction Diversion Initiative. This grant program was created in response to the nationwide eviction crisis, with the Akron Municipal Court being the only court in Ohio to receive funds. The court used the grant to hire two new full-time staff members to support the housing program. Plans for the Resource Center have been in the works since the court relocated from its previous space in November 2023 after being housed in the Harold K. Stubbs Justice Center since 1966. The court hosted a tour of the Resource Center, providing information about the services offered and highlighting the importance of addressing housing issues.
