Weekend Lane Closures Planned for I-65N at Tennessee River Bridge by ALDOT

Cekra, the contractor in charge of rehabilitating the Tennessee River Bridges, has announced that single-lane closures will be in effect on the northbound I-65 Tennessee River Bridge each weekend in October. These closures are necessary for concrete repairs to the deck of the northbound bridge. The outside lane will be closed at 6 p.m. on Fridays and reopen at 5 a.m. on Mondays, causing potential delays for motorists. The $23.7 million project, which includes cleaning, painting, and repairing concrete and structural steel on the bridges, is already more than halfway complete and on track for substantial completion in 2025.

ALDOT North Region Engineer Curtis Vincent emphasized that efforts have been made to limit the impact on traffic during this project, with most of the work taking place under the bridges or during nighttime hours. Throughout this process, Cekra has implemented innovative solutions such as using abrasive blasting to prepare surfaces for painting and rigging scaffolding to access work areas. The contractor has also found ways to complete some work items overnight that were initially thought to require around-the-clock closures.

Motorists are advised to plan for additional travel time or consider alternate routes during the upcoming weekends in October. Real-time traffic updates, including congestion and live traffic camera feeds, can be found on ALGOTraffic.com. Beyond the scheduled closures in October, no daytime lane closures are planned for the rest of the project.
