Cleveland Foundation Appoints Joyce Pan Huang as Chief Impact Officer
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Foundation has announced the appointment of Joyce Pan Huang as its new Chief Impact Officer following a national search. Huang, who currently serves as the city planning director for Cleveland, will officially join the Foundation in January.
Lillian Kuri, president and CEO of the Cleveland Foundation, praised Huang’s qualifications, stating, “Joyce is an extraordinary, nationally recognized leader with an impressive track record advancing transformative, community-centered impact.” Kuri emphasized that Huang’s expertise and understanding of community experiences will be vital in promoting the Foundation’s vision for a thriving Northeast Ohio where every resident’s needs are met.
In her role, Huang will spearhead initiatives aimed at establishing a cohesive vision for the Foundation, enhancing its reputation as a trusted partner for transformative change in Cleveland. Since her appointment as city planning director in January 2022 by Mayor Justin Bibb, Huang has been instrumental in various projects, including the development of a new master plan for a vital neighborhood between downtown and the Cleveland Clinic. She also led a neighborhood strategy for Asiatown, incorporating a team of multi-lingual planners to better serve its diverse immigrant communities.
A native of Penfield, New York, Huang stands out as a trailblazer—being the first woman, first mother, and first Asian-American to hold the city planning director position in Cleveland. Her contributions to urban initiatives such as the 15-minute city plan and sustainable zoning reforms illustrate her commitment to enhancing neighborhood planning.
Huang expressed her excitement about joining the Cleveland Foundation, stating, “I strongly believe that people-centered investments and relationship-building are essential for dynamic and growing communities.” Her expertise in city planning and community development will play a crucial role in advancing the Foundation’s place-based philanthropic efforts for the Greater Cleveland area.
