Tennessee Pastor Commits Suicide After Child Molestation Accusation
David Mark Baker, Sr., a 57-year-old pastor from Tennessee, took his own life just hours after being released from jail on a charge of molesting a child. Baker, who served as the lead pastor of Family Baptist Church in Columbia, was accused of touching a child’s breasts between 2013-2015. The sexual abuse allegation is still under investigation by Maury County authorities.
Baker was known for his work with Fallen in Grace, a ministry that focused on restoring pastors involved in sexual misconduct. He also authored a book on overcoming sin, which was sold on the ministry’s website. After being released on bail, Baker entered a restroom at Maury Regional Medical Center and fatally shot himself in the chest. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries.
The church has removed Baker’s name from its website, and his social media pages have been deactivated. Efforts to reach Family Baptist Church for comment were unsuccessful. Baker, who had also run for Maury County Mayor, faced backlash and tragic consequences following the child molestation accusation. The community and members of his congregation are left grappling with the shocking turn of events.
