Two Suspects Detained in Washington Township Following Traffic Stop That Reveals Drugs – Peak of Ohio

Washington Township Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrests

Wednesday evening, Washington Township police conducted a traffic stop that escalated into a drug-related arrest, highlighting ongoing issues with drug abuse in the community.

The incident occurred on Township Road 239 at the junction with US Route 33, where officers pulled over a vehicle for expired registration and equipment violations. During the stop, the driver, 44-year-old Christopher Lunsford from Milford, and passenger 60-year-old Lori Cook from Owensville were identified.

While engaging with the occupants, police officers detected signs that suggested recent drug use. In response, they called for the assistance of K9 Hondo, a trained narcotics detection dog. The K9 indicated the presence of illegal substances within the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed crack cocaine, Clonazepam—a Schedule 4 controlled substance—and various drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the findings, both Lunsford and Cook were arrested and taken into custody at the Logan County Jail. Cook now faces multiple charges, including possession of crack cocaine, possession of Clonazepam, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lunsford is charged with possession of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

This incident underscores the persistent challenges law enforcement faces in combatting drug-related crimes in the area. Authorities are urging the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and combat the drug epidemic. Further updates on the ongoing investigation and any court proceedings will be provided as they develop.
