Wheeling Celebrates Best of the Ohio Valley at Gala Awards Night
WHEELING — On Wednesday night, the Ohio Valley celebrated its top businesses and services during the Best of the Ohio Valley Readers’ Choice Awards held at Wheeling Park’s White Palace, hosted by The Intelligencer, Wheeling News-Register, and the Times Leader. The event showcased the favorites of readers across 153 categories, following an extensive voting process that garnered nearly 300,000 votes from the community.
John McCabe, editor of The Intelligencer, praised the nominees for their dedication and hard work, stating, "This is a confirmation of the work you do every day and what it means to the community."
WVU Medicine excelled, receiving seven awards, with WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital recognized as the best hospital and in home health care. Its Wheeling location triumphed in pediatrics, physical rehabilitation, and audiology. Phillip Carl from WVU Medicine expressed gratitude to the voters and emphasized the quality care provided across their hospitals.
Cloud 9 Salon and Spa secured victories in three categories, underscoring customer-centric service as their key to success. Oglebay Resort was honored as the best location for children’s camps, event planning, family entertainment, and romantic getaways.
Abby’s Restaurant was named the best restaurant and lounge, with owner Joe Maroon attributing their success to a strong family atmosphere and dedicated staff. Zambito Family Dentistry was awarded best dental practice, highlighting patient relationships as central to their approach.
Other notable winners included Wilson Furniture Store, the best furniture store, and Belmont Savings Bank, chosen as the best mortgage company, with Kirke’s Homemade Ice Cream crowned for best ice cream.
The gala not only recognized excellence in the Ohio Valley but also celebrated the community spirit and commitment to quality service that these winners embody.
