WVU Medicine Shines at Best of the Ohio Valley Awards
WHEELING — WVU Medicine emerged as a dominant force in the Best of the Ohio Valley Readers’ Choice Awards, clinching seven prestigious honors at a gala event held Wednesday at Wheeling Park’s White Palace. The celebration, hosted by The Intelligencer, Wheeling News-Register, and Times Leader, showcased local businesses recognized by nearly 300,000 votes across 153 categories. This year saw a total of 2,000 businesses nominated, reflecting a significant increase in engagement from the community.
WVU Medicine’s accolades included Best Hospital and Best in Home Health Care for Reynolds Memorial Hospital. Additionally, Wheeling Hospital was recognized for excellence in pediatrics, physical rehabilitation, and audiology, while the Howard Long Wellness Center garnered the title of Best Fitness Center. Phillip Carl, director of marketing and communications for WVU Medicine, expressed gratitude to voters and the community for their continued trust in their healthcare services. “Our leadership is genuinely invested in the health of the community, which is reflected in the quality of care we provide,” he stated.
Other notable winners included Cloud 9 Salon and Spa, awarded Best Barber Shop, Hair Salon, and Nail Salon, with owner Bridgette Hardy emphasizing customer-centric service as key to their success. Oglebay Resort was lauded for its children’s camp, event planning, family entertainment, and as a romantic getaway destination. Abby’s Restaurant claimed titles for Best Restaurant and Best Service, with owner Joe Maroon attributing success to a dedicated staff and family atmosphere.
Overall, the night celebrated local businesses’ dedication to quality and community, reinforcing the importance of service excellence in the Ohio Valley.
