Title: Tensions Run High After Steelers vs. Browns Game: Pickens and Newsome in Scuffle
CLEVELAND, Ohio — The post-game atmosphere was anything but calm as tensions flared between Pittsburgh Steelers’ receiver George Pickens and Cleveland Browns’ cornerback Greg Newsome II following a dramatic Hail Mary attempt. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin voiced his disapproval of the Browns’ defensive maneuvers, suggesting they interfered with Pickens’ ability to make the catch that would have secured a win for his team, pushing their record to 9-2 while leaving the Browns at 2-9.
The scuffle escalated after the Hail Mary was deflected, with reports indicating that Pickens grabbed Newsome by the facemask and removed his helmet, leading to a physical confrontation. In contrast, Newsome characterized Pickens as a "fake tough guy" and claimed he "didn’t even go up for the ball." Both players were reportedly engaged from the onset, which culminated in the altercation in the end zone.
While Tomlin acknowledged Pickens’ critical role in the play, he admitted to not having seen the incident on video, which is currently under NFL review. Newsome, however, anticipated league scrutiny but expressed that he didn’t expect to be fined, defending his reactions in the heat of the moment.
Adding to the chaos, the physical confrontation inadvertently knocked over a photographer and saw Pickens engaged with spectators before security intervened. With the Steelers and Browns set to meet again in Pittsburgh on December 8, this intense rivalry is expected to bring further fireworks both on and off the field.
