Myles Garrett Recognized as AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Myles Garrett Declares Himself NFL’s Top Edge Defender After Dominant Game Against Steelers

BEREA, Ohio — Following the Cleveland Browns’ thrilling 24-19 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers, Myles Garrett boldly proclaimed himself the NFL’s premier edge defender, and his performance certainly backed that claim. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week after a standout game where he recorded five tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble, adding to his season total of ten sacks—tied for third in the league.

Garrett’s impact on Thursday night was undeniable. His first sack set kicker Chris Boswell back for a missed 58-yard attempt, while his second sack, a strip-sack, helped transition into a crucial field goal. The third came at a critical juncture right before halftime, thwarting a potential scoring opportunity for the Steelers.

This marks Garrett’s fourth Offensive Player of the Week award, previously winning it in 2023, 2021, and 2020. He stands out as the only player in the league with at least ten sacks in each of the last seven seasons.

Garrett’s determination was fueled by his rivalry with Steelers’ T.J. Watt, who outshone him in last year’s Defensive Player of the Year voting. Despite earlier disputes on social media, Garrett’s performance on the field spoke volumes as he outsacked Watt 3-0.

After the game, Garrett solidified his argument, stating, “I’m No. 1… Just goes to show, you can throw that out the window—I’m going to find a way.” His teammates, including quarterback Jameis Winston, acknowledged Garrett’s leadership and fierce pre-game motivation.

Cleveland improved to 3-8, while the Steelers fell to 8-3, as Garrett’s efforts propelled the Browns to an impressive upset victory.
