Mild Thanksgiving Weather Transitions to Snowy Conditions in Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Travelers this Thanksgiving Day can expect predominantly mild weather, as the National Weather Service predicts a mix of rain and snow early in the morning, transitioning to mostly rain throughout the day. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-40s. However, as evening approaches, temperatures will begin to drop, resulting in potential rain and snow mixes before 10 p.m. Snow showers are anticipated later that night, with lows dipping below freezing. If significant accumulation occurs, it would mark the first snowfall on Thanksgiving in a decade, since 2014 when Cleveland recorded 7 inches of snow.
Beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, a Winter Storm Watch will be in effect for Ashtabula and Lake Counties, where a multi-day lake-effect snowstorm is expected to deliver up to 8 inches or more by Monday morning. Caution is advised for those traveling during this period. Eastern Cuyahoga County and neighboring areas might see over 2 inches of snow, while the rest of Cuyahoga County, along with parts of Lorain, Medina, Summit, and Portage Counties, may receive 1-2 inches. Regions further west and south are likely to witness just a light dusting.
As the holiday weekend progresses, shoppers heading out on Black Friday should prepare for snow showers, with daytime highs around freezing and nighttime lows in the upper teens. Snow chances will continue into Saturday, tapering slightly but generally remaining cold, with highs around 30°F on Sunday.
Looking ahead to next week, workdays are expected to be mostly cloudy with a 50% chance of snow on Monday and a 30% chance on Tuesday, with temperatures hovering near freezing.
