Press Release: Medina County District Library Offers Genealogy and Local History Events this Winter
MEDINA, Ohio – This winter, the Medina County District Library invites residents to dive into genealogy and local history with an exciting lineup of events. Starting with "After the Fire: Images of the Cuyahoga River" on December 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Brunswick Library, attendees can view powerful photographs documenting the aftermath of the infamous 1969 Cuyahoga River fire.
On December 11, January 8, and February 12, the Genealogy Discussion Group will convene at Medina Library at 12:30 p.m. This gathering provides a platform for genealogists to connect, share insights, and seek advice on research challenges.
Mark your calendars for the 10th Annual Medina County Local History Fair on January 25 from noon to 4 p.m. at Medina Library. Local historical and genealogical societies will display their collections, offer expert guidance on family history, and present videos showcasing Medina County’s rich heritage.
On January 28 at 6:30 p.m. at Lodi Library, attendees can explore "Bloody Corner & Beyond," which focuses on Cleveland’s Prohibition-era mob figures.
Additionally, a virtual workshop titled "How to Organize & Pass on Family History" will be held on February 1 at 2 p.m., helping participants to devise preservation plans for their family research. An optional viewing at Medina Library is also available.
For those just beginning their family history journey, "Beginning Family History Research" takes place on February 15 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Medina Library, guiding newcomers through six simple research steps.
Lastly, in honor of Black History Month, actor portrayals by Women in History Ohio will be presented: Harriet Tubman on February 19 at Lodi Library and Ella Fitzgerald on February 24 at Buckeye Library.
