ANA introduces AeroSHARK technology in collaboration with Boeing 777 aircraft

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has made history as the first airline to implement the revolutionary “AeroSHARK” skin technology on its Boeing 777 widebody aircraft. This move underscores ANA’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the aviation industry.

Developed in collaboration with Lufthansa Technik and BASF, the AeroSHARK film is inspired by shark skin’s natural hydrodynamic properties. By reducing air resistance, this technology is projected to cut annual fuel consumption by 250 tons and decrease CO2 emissions by 800 tons. This aligns with ANA Group’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Starting with a Boeing 777 Freighter, ANA will gradually introduce the AeroSHARK film to its passenger aircraft, ensuring a comprehensive evaluation of the technology’s benefits. Rigorous testing and monitoring will allow the airline to make informed decisions about expanding the technology across its fleet.

Hideki Matsui from ANA’s Structural Engineering Team highlighted the company’s dedication to sustainability and pushing technological boundaries. By pioneering innovative solutions like AeroSHARK, ANA is leading the way in promoting efficiency and environmental responsibility in the aviation industry.

This milestone represents a significant step towards a more sustainable future for air travel. ANA’s commitment to environmental stewardship and cutting-edge technology sets a new standard for the industry, proving that progress and ecological consciousness can go hand in hand.
