Cleveland Heights Police Report Rise in Thefts and Disturbances
CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Authorities are reporting an uptick in thefts and disturbances in the area over the busy Thanksgiving weekend.
On November 24, a woman discovered that a thief had smashed the passenger window of her Jeep Compass parked in her driveway, stealing a 9mm firearm belonging to her sister. The gun had been left on the passenger seat after the sister’s errand run. Unfortunately, police were unable to collect DNA evidence due to the area being cleaned before their arrival. On November 25, another incident was reported on Superior Park Drive, where a man discovered that a 9mm gun was stolen from underneath the driver’s seat of his GMC truck, parked in his driveway.
Additional thefts included a woman’s car being vandalized on Noble Road, where her cell phone was stolen after the front passenger window was broken. In another instance, a parked car on Pennfield Road had its rear window smashed; however, no items were reported missing.
Police also responded to a disturbance at Lutheran East High School after a cheerleader was threatened by former friends following a basketball game. Officers advised the mothers of the known girls that their daughters were banned from school grounds.
A more serious incident occurred on Vineshire Road, where a woman alleged she was pushed down stairs and assaulted by her children’s father. Despite visible injuries, she initially expressed a desire to press charges but later hesitated.
In a separate event, police arrested an older man for Operating a Vehicle Impaired after he fled the scene of his crashed car, running into a wooded area before being apprehended.
Cleveland Heights police continue to encourage residents to report any suspicious activity to maintain community safety.
