Alexia Michitti, born in Vestal, NY, guides USA’s National Women’s Soccer Team to a silver medal

Alexia Michitti, a star soccer player at Vestal High School born without a right hand, went on to become a goalkeeper for Team USA in the Amputees Women’s World Cup. Despite never playing the position before, she excelled and was awarded the Golden Glove for best goalie in the tournament. The team reached the championship but ultimately took home the silver medal. Michitti was inspired by athletes like Jim Abbott and Bethany Hamilton, and now motivates younger generations as a speaker. She is currently a senior at SUNY Oneonta and is focused on her future soccer career. She credits her success to being surrounded by other players with similar experiences, and is proud to represent her country on the international stage. Through hard work and dedication, Michitti has proven that physical limitations do not define one’s abilities, and she hopes to continue inspiring others with her story.
