Glenville Falls Short in OHSAA Division IV Semifinal Against Perkins
CLYDE, Ohio – In a hard-fought battle that echoed last year’s Region 14 final, Glenville’s hopes for a third consecutive OHSAA Division IV state championship ended with a narrow 13-11 loss to Sandusky Perkins on Friday at Robert Bishop Stadium. Turnovers plagued the Tarblooders, who ended their season with an 11-4 record, while Perkins (14-1) advances to face Gnadenhutten Indian Valley in the championship game next week.
The game was defined by its defensive struggles, with Glenville coach Ted Ginn Sr. lamenting the critical mistakes that led to four turnovers, which Perkins capitalized on to score 10 points. “When you get to this level, you have to learn how to finish," Ginn reflected after the game. “It wasn’t God’s way this time.”
The first half ended with Perkins leading 13-8, after Glenville managed to respond with a 5-yard touchdown run by sophomore QB LaMarques Greenwood, set up by Demetrius Harper’s impressive 80-yard kick return. However, a fumble late in the second quarter resulted in a costly 39-yard field goal for the Pirates.
The second half saw a defensive stalemate, with Glenville only managing a 34-yard field goal from Emiere Lemons. Despite their efforts, including a crucial defensive stand that limited Perkins to just 13 yards in the second half, the Tarblooders could not overcome their earlier mistakes.
Ginn expressed pride in his team’s hard work and resilience throughout the season, noting their youth as a factor for future potential. “They’re young and it just wasn’t our time,” he concluded.
