West Liberty-Salem’s remarkable playoff journey came to an end on Friday night with a 63-21 loss to a strong Ironton team. Despite falling behind early and struggling to contain Ironton’s offense, West Liberty-Salem showed resilience with two kickoff return touchdowns by Jack Bahan. Josh Wilcoxon also added a rushing touchdown in the second half. However, Ironton’s talent, size, and speed proved too much for the Tigers to handle as they fell short in their historic State Semifinal appearance.
With a final record of 13-2, West Liberty-Salem set a school record for most wins in a season and made their first-ever State Semifinal appearance. Despite the loss, the Tigers can take pride in their impressive season and the hard work they put in to reach this point.
Ironton will now advance to the Division V Championship where they will face Liberty Center. As West Liberty-Salem reflects on their season, they can look back on their accomplishments and the memories they made during their unforgettable playoff run. While the journey may have ended sooner than they hoped, the Tigers can hold their heads high knowing they gave it their all and represented their school with pride and determination.
