Cleveland Boat Fishing Tournament Scandal Boat to be Auctioned Off

A 22-foot bass boat that was seized after competitors Chase Cominsky and Jacob Runyan were sentenced to jail for cheating in a 2022 Cleveland fishing tournament is now being auctioned off by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. The boat, a 2022 Ranger Pro FS 622, has an estimated value of $130,000 and is currently being bid on with the highest offer standing at $80,000 as of now.

The scandal unfolded in October 2022 during the Lake Erie Walleye Trail Tournament, where Runyan and Cominsky were found to have cheated by placing weights inside the fish they caught. They were disqualified, arrested, and later pleaded guilty to cheating and possessing wild animals charges. The men were sentenced to 10 days in jail, probation, a fine, and suspension of their fishing licenses for up to three years.

The boat, previously used by Cominsky during the tournament, was also forfeited in connection to the scandal. Additionally, Cominsky faced charges of poaching deer, which were later dropped. The prosecutors emphasized that these actions send a clear message that cheaters will be held accountable and banned from future fishing tournaments. The auction for the boat is open until July 23, and those interested are encouraged to bid for a chance to own this infamous piece of fishing history.
