Lake Effect Snow Makes a Comeback Today and Continues into Monday

Lake-Effect Snow Warning Extended for Northern Ohio Counties

Northern Ohio is bracing for more severe weather as the ongoing lake-effect snow warning for Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula counties has been extended until Tuesday morning. Heavy snow is expected to persist throughout the weekend, with snowfall rates of one to two inches per hour in affected areas, potentially leading to another foot or more of accumulation.

Travel conditions along the I-90 corridor are expected to be dangerous, with both directions of the interstate closed from Highway 11 in Ashtabula County to the Ohio-Pennsylvania state line. Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution due to the predicted heavy snow squalls that could reduce visibility to near zero.

The frigid air sweeping into Northern Ohio is creating ideal conditions for significant snowfall. While snow showers could occur in a broader area, the focus will be on intense lake-effect snow squalls east of Cleveland and towards the snow belt. By Sunday, the snow bands may shift inland and westward, impacting communities like eastern Cuyahoga and northern Geauga County. Residents can expect a sharp contrast in snowfall totals across relatively short distances.

As the lake-effect snow event may linger until Tuesday, forecasts indicate cold and snowy conditions will continue even after the heavy snow subsides. Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to remain low with the possibility of additional snow showers throughout the week.
