Michigan Shocks No. 2 Ohio State 13-10, Sparks Massive Postgame Brawl at Midfield

Ohio State Falls to Michigan in Defensive Battle

In a tightly contested showdown, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes suffered a stunning defeat to the Michigan Wolverines, losing 13-10, and dashing their hopes for a Big Ten championship and first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. The game culminated dramatically with Michigan’s Dominic Zvada sinking a 21-yard field goal with just 45 seconds left, securing their lead.

After the final whistle, tensions flared as a skirmish erupted on the field when Wolverine players attempted to celebrate with a Michigan flag. The altercation escalated when Ohio State’s Jack Sawyer intervened, leading to a chaotic scene that required law enforcement intervention, including the use of pepper spray, to manage the conflict.

Ohio State’s head coach Ryan Day expressed disappointment in the aftermath, noting the pride of his players and the ejection of the Wolverines’ flag from their field. This defeat marks the fourth consecutive win for Michigan over Ohio State, a streak unseen since the early 90s when Michigan dominated prior to Ohio State’s seven-game winning streak under Urban Meyer.

Offensively, the Buckeyes struggled significantly, failing to register a first down in the fourth quarter. Mismanagement, including a pivotal personnel blunder leading to an illegal substitution penalty, cost Ohio State crucial time and momentum in the final moments. The Buckeyes managed only 77 rushing yards, while their quarterback, Will Howard, completed 19 of 33 passes for 175 yards, contributing to an uninspiring offensive performance.

Despite the loss, Ohio State remains in contention for a 12-team playoff spot, holding a record of 10-2, although their hopes for the Big Ten title have dissipated following a commanding win by Penn State over Maryland. As the season progresses, the Buckeyes must regroup to maintain hope for a national championship.
