Wayne Northrop, ‘Days of Our Lives’ Star, Passes Away at 77
LOS ANGELES – Wayne Northrop, beloved actor best known for his portrayal of detective Roman Brady on NBC’s iconic soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” has died at the age of 77. Northrop passed away on Friday at the Motion Picture and Television Home in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, following a six-year battle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease. His wife, Lynn Herring Northrop, confirmed his passing, stating he “took his last breath in the arms of his family.”
Lynn expressed deep gratitude towards the caregivers at the Motion Picture and Television Home, praising their compassionate care during Northrop’s final years. She commemorated her husband as a man who brought joy to many through his humor and was a devoted husband of 43 years and a loving father to their two sons, Hank and Grady.
Born on April 12, 1947, in Sumner, Washington, Northrop began his acting career in 1977 with a role in “Eight is Enough.” His breakthrough came in 1981 when he was cast as Roman Brady, featuring in over 1,000 episodes of “Days of Our Lives.” Northrop also starred in the successful series “Dynasty” as Michael Culhane, appearing in 35 episodes between 1981 and 1987. His other notable roles included Rex Stanton in ABC’s “Port Charles” and appearances in shows like “L.A. Law” and “Cold Case.”
In addition to his wife, Northrop is survived by his two adult sons and his stepmother, Janet Northrop. Tributes have been pouring in from fans and colleagues alike, celebrating Northrop’s impactful career and his warm spirit.
