Local boys basketball teams faced tough competition over the weekend with mixed results. The Calvary Christian Spartans fell to the Waynesfield Goshen Tigers 61-44 in the Meyers Tavern Tipoff Classic consolation game. Philip Davie led the Spartans with 14 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Despite the loss, the Spartans showed determination with Zeeke Wylie adding 10 points, Christian Rogan scoring 7 points, and Evan Schmidt contributing 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. The Spartans will have a chance to redeem themselves this Friday at Franklin Monroe.
Riverside also faced a tough defeat, losing to Botkins 78-57 in the final round of the Botkins Tipoff Tournament. Gavin Osborne led the team with 17 points and 3 rebounds, Hayden Sanford added 13 points and 3 rebounds, and Jaxon Woods scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Woods was also named to the all-tournament team for his efforts.
Benjamin Logan faced a tough opponent in Kenton and suffered a 55-34 loss. Peyton and Maddox Vermillion each scored 9 points, and Cayden Brown added 7 points. In the JV game, the Raiders also fell short with Diesel Baughman scoring 11 points and Carter Fay contributing 7 points.
Despite the losses, the teams showed resilience and will be looking to bounce back in their upcoming games. Fans can expect to see these talented players give their all on the court in the next matchups.
