Wheeling’s Centre Market Bustles with Holiday Spirit Ahead of Thanksgiving
Wheeling, WV – The historic Centre Market was abuzz with holiday preparations on Wednesday as shoppers flocked to the area in anticipation of Thanksgiving and the festive season. Local patrons were busy picking up treats and essentials for their holiday meals, creating a lively atmosphere.
Tina Marking, who was busy running errands, shared her excitement for the upcoming family gathering, explaining that she had ordered a pumpkin cheesecake from American Pies and Pastries to simplify her holiday cooking. “It’s done now!” she laughed, noting that she was also grabbing baklava at Valley Cheese Co. before heading home to entertain a family of 15. Marking emphasized the joy of spending time together, enjoying traditional favorites like turkey, stuffing, and mashed potatoes.
Meanwhile, Jay DiProsperis enjoyed a leisurely lunch at Michael’s Beef House, surrounded by festive decorations. A lifelong Wheeling resident and former high school mascot, DiProsperis appreciated the bustling holiday vibe.
Mother-daughter duo Stacey Creely and Valerie Mamula were also preparing for Thanksgiving, having collected a holiday cheese board at Valley Cheese. Creely looked forward to her husband’s return from work as he plans to smoke the Thanksgiving turkey, adding to their celebratory spirit. “I’m really excited,” she said.
The local businesses experienced a swell in foot traffic, with Jenny Showalter from the Market Cafe noting their holiday drink specials drew in numerous customers. Families, including Showalter’s, were readying for Thanksgiving traditions, which included an elf on the shelf setup for Christmas.
As the community comes together, Centre Market reflects the warmth and joy of the season, full of holiday cheer and celebration.
