Possibility of Trial Looms for Strauss Sex Abuse Victims

The Ohio State University sexual abuse scandal involving former physician Dr. Richard Strauss has made its way to federal court, with a trial date set for 2025. The lawsuit involves nearly 200 men accusing the university of alleged sexual abuse by Strauss during his time as a physician at the school. The university has already settled some cases for $60 million but is fighting to have the remaining cases dismissed due to the expiration of the time limit for claims. The United States Supreme Court previously declined to consider the case due to Title IX claims and its impact on universities and students.

Attorneys for both sides met with a federal judge for a status conference, where mediation was discussed as a way to resolve the case. Attorney Rocky Ratliff, representing 42 plaintiffs, expressed confidence in their case and readiness to take the stand to tell their stories. The plaintiffs aim to bring the truth about the abuse they suffered to light and seek justice in the upcoming trial. The lawsuit involves a complex and lengthy process as the court sorts through nearly 235 individual cases. Strauss worked at the university from the 1970s until 1998, and the case has been ongoing for several years. The federal court is preparing for a lengthy legal battle as it moves toward trial in 2025.
