JAMESTOWN, NY – Cleaning Technologies Group LLC, the parent company of Blackstone-NEY Ultrasonics, announced plans to relocate its Jamestown division to Ohio, leaving local officials surprised and concerned about the potential job losses. The building at 9 N. Main St. in Jamestown, which has been home to Blackstone-NEY since its formation in 1988, is now up for sale.
According to the company’s website, while the move is set to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2024, Blackstone-NEY will maintain a sales and service office in Jamestown dedicated to in-house service work, research and development, and parts sales. This setup aims to ensure existing clients and employees continue to receive support.
Mayor Kim Ecklund expressed disappointment over the transition. She stated, “We knew Blackstone was going to move some of the jobs to Ohio… I’ve bent over backwards to accommodate them, and we still can’t get clear answers on job impacts.” Development Director Crystal Surdyk echoed these sentiments, highlighting multiple meetings aimed at retaining some operations locally.
Attempts to gather detailed information from the Jamestown plant about the number of affected jobs and remaining services were unsuccessful. An employee directed inquiries to the company’s head office in Cincinnati, where requests for comments were also left unanswered as of the publication date.
The company, a leader in ultrasonic technology, has a reputation for innovation, having introduced advanced ultrasonic generators and transducer technology since its inception. As the community braces for this change, the future of local employment and operations remains uncertain.
