Deputy Injured in Serious Interstate Accident in Delaware County
DELAWARE COUNTY, OH — A deputy from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office suffered serious injuries when struck by a semi-truck early Thursday morning on Interstate 71 South. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. while deputies were investigating a separate crash, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
As deputies were on the scene with their cruisers’ emergency lights activated, a semi lost control, jackknifed, and veered off the west side of the road. It not only hit Deputy Golden but also collided with a Toyota Camry involved in the earlier accident. Both the deputy and the Camry’s driver were quickly transported to a nearby hospital due to the severity of their injuries.
In a statement released on social media, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office provided an update on Deputy Golden’s condition. While acknowledging the inherent dangers faced by law enforcement, the office reported that Golden is currently in good spirits and on the road to recovery, despite the long journey ahead involving additional medical procedures. The statement expressed gratitude for the support and prayers from the community, emphasizing the familial bond within the Sheriff’s Office.
The accident remains under investigation by OSHP as authorities assess the circumstances surrounding the loss of control by the semi. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks first responders face daily while carrying out their duties. Community members are encouraged to remain alert on the roadways to ensure the safety of all.
