UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – A series of incidents were detailed by the University Heights Police Department between November 4 and November 10, revealing concerns ranging from extortion to traffic violations.

On November 4, a 19-year-old student from John Carroll University fell victim to online extortion. He was coerced into sending $159.61 to an unknown party, who threatened to release nude photos he had sent. No information is available on whether the photos were published.

Later that evening, a traffic stop for an equipment violation led to the arrest of a 50-year-old Warrensville Heights woman for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OVI).

The following day, a 64-year-old man reported a theft after a stolen bass guitar, valued at $899.99, was signed for upon delivery to his residence while he was out of town.

On November 6, two warrant arrests were made: a 53-year-old Cleveland man was apprehended during a wellness check on a disabled vehicle, and on November 7, a 23-year-old Mayfield Heights man was stopped for a registration violation and subsequently found to have a suspended license and multiple warrants.

The most alarming incident occurred on November 8, when a woman reported a burglary at her home, where credit cards and jewelry were stolen alongside her vehicle, which was found later that day. A 38-year-old acquaintance of the victim was arrested for burglary and auto theft.

Animal-related incidents were also reported, including a dog bite on November 9 and a citation for a dog at large on November 10. These incidents underline ongoing public safety challenges within the community.
