Ohio Swim Team Shines at 2024 Toyota US Open in Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five promising athletes from the Ohio swimming team showcased their skills at the 2024 Toyota US Open held in Greensboro, North Carolina from December 4-7. The team members included sophomore Zita Szoke, juniors Casadie DiBetta and Emily Ellsworth, as well as seniors Julia Strine and Edie Sawyer, who all delivered impressive performances over the weekend.

Zita Szoke kicked off the competition on Thursday, excelling in the 50-yard freestyle. She clocked an impressive qualifying time of 22.87, advancing to the ‘A’ final where she secured a sixth-place finish with a time of 22.58. Szoke continued her strong showing on Friday in the 200-yard freestyle, again qualifying for the ‘A’ finals with a time of 1:46.73 and finishing fifth overall at 1:46.26.

In the 100-yard breaststroke event, Casadie DiBetta emerged as a standout, earning third place in the qualifiers at 1:00.99. She later achieved a third-place finish in the ‘A’ final with a time of 1:00.60. Julia Strine also competed, qualifying for the ‘B’ final with a notable time of 1:01.99, ultimately securing an 11th overall finish.

Szoke continued to dominate in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday, where she qualified third with a time of 48.85 and placed third in the finals at 48.59. Casadie DiBetta further showcased her talent in the 200-yard breaststroke, qualifying for the ‘A’ final.

The Ohio swim team is now set to take a winter break before participating in the UB Diving Invite in Buffalo, New York, scheduled for January 9-11. The strong performances at the US Open set a promising tone for the upcoming season.
