Finance director of Brunswick details upcoming capital projects in 2025 budget

Brunswick City Council recently approved a $91 million operating budget for 2025, reflecting the city’s commitment to positive financial practices. Finance Director Todd Fischer highlighted that there are no proposed increases in full-time staffing, with a 4% increase in overall operational costs. Fischer credited the city’s Fund Balance Reserve, established in 2012, for providing funding for various capital projects such as road and stormwater improvements, building repairs, and trail and playground creation.

The budget includes plans for $2.2 million in neighborhood road improvements, funded in part by gas tax revenues and the city’s road levy. Additionally, a Community Development Block Grant will partially fund $500,000 in neighborhood road repairs. Other projects include the replacement of roadways following Cleveland Water-owned waterline repairs, design work for an intersection improvement project, and dredging of the lake at North Park.

A major project highlighted in the budget is the construction of a new $15.7 million fire station, expected to be completed by the end of 2025. Council also approved ordinance amendments related to the budget, renewal of a police and fire dispatching agreement with Brunswick Hills Township, a maintenance contract with TAC Computers, and a resolution in support of America 250-OH.

City Manager Carl DeForest also reminded residents of the snow-event parking ban during the recent council meeting, emphasizing the importance of allowing snow plows access to roadways in snowy conditions. It is evident that Brunswick is prioritizing infrastructure improvements and fiscal responsibility in its 2025 budget.
